Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for two Career Coach positions in the Office of Career and Professional Development. The Center for Career and Professional Development is an industry-centric operation. Career Coaches have student-and employer-facing roles and specialize in assigned industries to help students explore careers, apply for opportunities, and connect them with employers that interest them most. The Career Coach will meet with students to provide individual coaching and facilitate workshops, presentations, and employer events, often in collaboration with faculty and staff. The Career Coach will also meet and liaise with employers to support job, internship, and experiential learning development efforts and cultivate employer relationships in order to identify opportunities for Utica College students/recent alumni. Additionally, The Career Coach will provide support with The Center’s strategic initiatives, assessment efforts, and special projects as assigned.

Primary responsibilities include:
A. Career Coaching
• Connect students with employers’ external job, internship, and experiential learning opportunities that are consistent with students’ career goals and interests and prepare them for the application and onboarding process.
• Actively develop and utilize knowledge of industry employers, opportunities, tools, resources, and trends.
• Help students develop and refine skills in résumé, cover letter, and application essay writing; online and in-person networking; interviewing; professional etiquette; and job search skills through the delivery of individual coaching sessions, workshops, events, and other programs.
• Administer and interpret career inventories and assessments (Focus, personality type software).
• Follow up with students/alumni to understand session outcomes and identify areas for ongoing support.
• Serve as a liaison and closely partner with other College staff, faculty, and student organizations to ensure the delivery of timely, targeted support to assist students with career exploration, planning, and successfully transitioning to next professional steps.
• Promote Handshake for job and internship searching, event registration, etc.
• Work with Campus Employment and other experiential learning staff to connect students with campus-based job and internship opportunities and ensure internship and experiential learning processes are followed.
• Ensure services provided are consistent with The Center’s goals and institutional efforts, including those on retention, completion, and educational quality.
• Track and report on student/alumni coaching sessions, workshops, events, and other programs for data collection and student learning outcomes and satisfaction assessments.
B. Employer Development
• Proactively participate in the identification, recruitment, and relationship management of employers through meetings, site visits, online networking, event attendance, Handshake, LinkedIn, etc.
• Coordinate events, programs, etc. featuring employers and their opportunities for students/recent alumni.
• Promote Handshake to employers as a recruiting tool, providing education on Handshake as needed.
• Collaborate with the Offices of Advancement and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as needed to identify alumni as possible employers.
• Create marketing materials and strategies to help promote opportunities to students/recent alumni. This would include but not limited to creating social media content that strengthen and increase awareness for departmental events that are consistent with the Center for Career & Professional Development brand.
• Initiate communication with faculty, experiential learning staff, and other stakeholders about employer opportunities.
• Document, track, and report employer development efforts; maintain current contact information in Handshake and other employer databases.
C. Program/Project Management
• Coordinate, market, and facilitate workshops, class presentations, and events including Networking Nights, career fairs, and site visits.
• Develop industry- and major-specific information on a range of career development topics for the creation of guides, materials, and for classroom presentations.
• Contribute to the growth of an on-campus recruitment program through collaboration with employers, faculty, staff, and student organizations.
• Represent The Center for Career and Professional Development during college-wide events, such as Orientation, Homecoming, and Office of Admissions open houses.
D. Additional Duties
• Participate in The Center’s and the division’s planning and goal setting meetings.
• Participate in campus committees to represent The Center and advance its mission and goals.
• Responsible for working with staff to achieve successful results on all established individual and Center goals and key performance indicators.
• Take an active role in the development of The Center’s strategic and operational plans. Work closely with the supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support the Center’s success.
• Participate and engage in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and programs at least once a semester.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
• Possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria. Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by College insurance carrier guidelines.
• Regional travel will be required with some night and weekend work.
• Master’s degree preferred in higher education administration, college student development, counseling, business, or a related field.
• Minimum two years’ relevant experience with demonstrated success in career development, counseling, higher education, human resources, or in a related field.
• Substantial relevant experience in lieu of a master’s degree will be considered.
