This position works primarily weekdays, plus one evening shift per week and one Saturday on rotation every six to eight weeks.
Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) is seeking a talented Recreation Therapist to join our team. AMRTC is a secure inpatient psychiatric hospital serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness in a large, campus-based setting. The population also includes individuals civilly committed for specialized care, such as competency for criminal court (Rule 20), emergency 48-hour holds, and co-occurring mental illness/chemical dependency. Located just 15 minutes north of the Twin Cities metro, this modern facility offers compassionate, person-centered care in a pleasant environment appreciated by patients and employees alike.
AMRTC focuses on rehabilitative education, building interpersonal skills, and developing community engagement skills, as well as increasing independence and self-management of their illness, behavior, and emotion. In your role as a Recreation Therapist, you will use evidenced based modalities to treat the mental, emotional and social needs of the individual patients to maintain or rehabilitate the patient’s well-being.
•Evaluate the history, interests, aptitudes and skill of patients through assessments, observations and medical records. Use such findings to develop and implement therapeutic interventions for the patient's person centered treatment plan.
•Apply knowledge and understanding of mental illness, psychology, and other appropriate physical, social, and biological sciences and skill in recreational therapy, to plan and carry out a variety of treatment programs.
•Conduct ongoing evaluations of therapy results and modify, redirect, adjust, and/or augment treatment plans as indicated by each patient’s strengths, needs and response to treatment.
•Develop and implement goal specific interventions for the individualized treatment plans, as well as documenting client progress toward treatment goals.
•Demonstrate the skills needed to work with complex patients with a variety of mental health diagnosis’ and co-morbidities.
•Participate on interdisciplinary treatment teams utilizing professional knowledge and skill in the integration of recreation therapy into the overall team treatment plan.
•Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Park/Recreation, Corrective Therapy or Physical Education.
•Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
•Bachelor's degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation
•Five (5) years of professional experience working in the field of Therapeutic Recreation - and/or - mental health.
